What's Hot

Marrakech , Morocco is the new hot spot for the jet set and adventure traveler alike. It is one of the most popular destinations in the world for all kinds of people, from backpackers to the Moroccan royal family. In fact, some locales in Marrakech are so sizzling that one has to book lodging well in advance to secure a Riad, a traditional home with a garden courtyard, or a villa.

So, what makes this city so hot? Well, aside from the many famous people who frequent the fabled Pink City , it's the shopping that attracts the tourists and natives. The most well-known marketplace is Djemaa el Fna, an open air square where merchants entice customers with sweet smells and magical sounds. At night, the market place comes mysteriously alive with various food stands, storytellers, snake charmers, and watermen. Inside the maze of the medina, the old city, one can find a plethora of beautifully handmade items made from brass, metal, silver, wool, camel bone, and leather. Rug merchants are sure to offer Moroccan mint tea while one plows through piles of hand woven carpets.

Bargaining is the name of the game in Morocco . One should never show emotion when bargaining and always ask for a price reduction, which is expected by all merchants. At that point, that's when brushing up on one's Arabic or French could come in handy. Be aware that shopping in Marrakech is a true shopper's delight and a real adventure; however, it is not for the faint hearted.
